LSC consulting had the privilege, yesterday June 27, 2022 , to attend the economic conference “Reinventing thr drug economy” organized by the LEEM.
Leem is the professional organization of pharmaceutical companies operating in France. Leem currently has more than 260 member companies, which account for nearly 98% of total drug sales in France.
It was an exceptional opportunity to rethink and discuss the issues of regulation and financing of health products.
The day started with an envious speech by Olivier Nataf, acting president of Leem, who gave us an overview of the day’s proceedings and the main topics that animate this event.
Then, Jean Tirole, Nobel Prize in Economics, brightened up the first part of the morning with his presentation of the major economic and societal challenges of the changing healthcare ecosystem: the aging of the population, the digital turn, and the emergence of orphan and gene therapies that weigh considerably on the social security budget.
The first round table was centered around the theme of reinventing drug regulation, and the speakers were able to discuss the balance between improving the efficiency of procedures and health products on the one hand, and encouraging innovation and increasing the attractiveness of pharmaceutical laboratories and medical device manufacturers on the other.
As for the second round table, it was articulated around the current financing modalities for innovation: private investment, financial aid from the State, compulsory or complementary health insurance, evaluation of their effectiveness, and proposal of new provisions.
The event was very informative and inclusive, we thank heartfully the LEEM for the warm welcome and the quality of the organization.
